Opening Prayer

Opening Song     “How Great Thou Art”                   UMH 77

  1. O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the works Thy hands hath made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Refrain: Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: How great thou art,

how great Thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

  1. When through the woods and forest glades I wander and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees, when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur and hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze.

Refrain: Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: How great thou art,

how great Thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

  1. And when I think that God, His Son not sparing sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in. That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin!

Refrain. Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: How great thou art,

how great Thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

  1. When Christ shall come with shouts of acclamation and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration and there proclaim my God, how great Thou art!

Refrain: Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: How great thou art,

how great Thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

Young Disciples Time                       “Being Kind”

Song of Preparation “It Is Well with My Soul”       UMH 377

  1. When peace like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.

Refrain: It is well (it is well) with my soul, (with my soul). It is well, it is well

with my soul.

  1. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control, that Christ has regarded my helpless estate, and hath shed his own blood for my soul.

Refrain: It is well (it is well) with my soul, (with my soul). It is well, it is well

with my soul.

  1. My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

Refrain: It is well (it is well) with my soul, (with my soul). It is well, it is well

with my soul.

  1. And, Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll; the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend, even so, it is well with my soul.

Refrain: It is well (it is well) with my soul, (with my soul). It is well, it is well

with my soul.

Pastoral Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

Scripture Reading                     Mark 5:1-20 (NRSV)

5 They came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gerasenes.

2 And when he had stepped out of the boat,

immediately a man out of the tombs with an unclean spirit met him.

3 He lived among the tombs; and no one could restrain him anymore, even with a chain; 4 for he had often been restrained with shackles and chains,

but the chains he wrenched apart,

and the shackles he broke in pieces;

and no one had the strength to subdue him.

5 Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains

he was always howling and bruising himself with stones.

6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and bowed down before him;

7 and he shouted at the top of his voice,

“What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?

I adjure you by God, do not torment me.”

8 For he had said to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!”

9 Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”

He replied, “My name is Legion; for we are many.”

10 He begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country.

11 Now there on the hillside a great herd of swine was feeding;

12 and the unclean spirits begged him, “Send us into the swine; let us enter them.”

13 So he gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out

and entered the swine; and the herd, numbering about two thousand,

rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and were drowned in the sea.

14 The swineherds ran off and told it in the city and in the country.

Then people came to see what it was that had happened.

15 They came to Jesus and saw the demoniac sitting there,

clothed and in his right mind, the very man who had had the legion;

and they were afraid. 16 Those who had seen what had happened to the demoniac

and to the swine reported it. 17 Then they began to beg Jesus

to leave their neighborhood. 18 As he was getting into the boat,

the man who had been possessed by demons begged him that he might be with him.

19 But Jesus refused, and said to him,

“Go home to your friends, and tell them how much the Lord has done for you,

and what mercy he has shown you.”

20 And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis

how much Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.

Closing Prayer

Closing Song       “You Are Mine”   TFWS 2218

  1. I will come to you in the silence, I will lift you from all your fear. You will hear my voice, I claim you as my choice, be still and know I am here.
  2. I am hope for all who are hopeless, I am eyes for all who long to see. In the shadows of the night, I will be your light, come and rest in me.

Refrain: Do not be afraid, I am with you. I have called you each by name.

Come and follow me, I will bring you home; I love you and you are mine.

  1. I am strength for all the despairing, healing for the ones who dwell in shame. All the blind will see, the lame will all run free and all will know my name.

Refrain: Do not be afraid, I am with you. I have called you each by name.

Come and follow me, I will bring you home; I love you and you are mine.

  1. I am the Word that leads all to freedom, I am the peace the world cannot give. I will call your name, embracing all your pain, stand up, now walk, and live!

Refrain: Do not be afraid, I am with you. I have called you each by name.

Come and follow me, I will bring you home; I love you and you are mine.
